 Julie Andrews' Cinderella on PBS
On PBS this coming week, check your local listings:

GREAT PERFORMANCES
"Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella"
Monday, December 13, 2004 9 - 10:30 pm

"Cinderella" stars Julie Andrews and features a cast that
includes Kaye Ballard, Alice Ghostley and Edie Adams. A musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale, it was watched by an astounding 107 million viewers during its 1957 network
premiere; the film has not been seen since that initial
telecast. Tune in as "Great Performances" presents the restored original film for the first time in nearly half a century.
Julie Andrews hosts. (CC, Stereo)

Of all the versions of the musical, I prefer Andrews' rendition of Cindy. I can't stand Leslie Ann Warren's voice and as for Brandi, well, I guess I was too old to enjoy that one.

Also, the version will be released on DVD next week for anyone interested in that, too. Go to Cinderella starring Julie Andrews DVD

Re: Julie Andrews' Cinderella on PBS
Hurray! Thanks for posting Heidi! I've listened to the Julie Andrews version soundtrack since I was very young. It is the only version that I thought didn't take itself too seriously (like the Leslie Ann Warren one or every stage version I've seen). I'm excited to finally see this one performed!

 The best one!
I too have been listening to the soundtrack, hoping that this version would come out on DVD.

Thank God! By far the best version of the musical. I grew up with the Lesley Ann Warren one, which now that I look back on it, is a little cheesy and annoying at spots.

Julie Andrew is now one of my favorite Cinderellas. She is sweet, beautiful, and sings great.

The comedy in this version is well timed. The other versions just seemed to be trying too hard to put comedy in. This version's comedy fits like a glove.

The lack of color and special effects might seem bad to some, but I found it very good.

 Leslie Ann v. Julie
The LA version of Cinderella is just insipid. Period. She can't sing, act or dance. Comparing her performance to JA abilities is kind of like comparing my writing to Jane Yolen's.
