Disney: Something Overlooked
~There have been soooo many discussions about the watered down nature of disney movies: their impact on children, role of women, etc. Something has been overlooked, though. I think the role of disney is the exact opposite of what people think. While over simplified and even banal at times I think disney draws children toward the musical side of life. In a time where science and math are more important to schools than music and art disney movies engender in children the desire to sing and learn instruments. To stand up and perform in front of their peers. I was recently invited to sing with my old college choir and I watched them vote on themes for their secular concert. The vote for a disney medley was unanimous. I was astounded and thrilled that so many adults would want to sing children's music.
Maybe disney did something right after all.

Re: Disney: Something Overlooked
That's interesting. I just wish Disney had done that without being so wretched in other ways.
I've always preferred Sesame Street songs to Disney, but that's just me. I mean, which is cooler, "Me and My Llama," or "Someday My Prince Will Come"? I think we all know.

True
~Okay no one likes snow White because its crap. Someday My Prince will Come is rather grating, but A Whole New World is pretty cool as well as the songs from Hunchback of Notre Dame which are very reminiscent of Broadway.
