Does anyone know "The White Fox" by Okakura Kakuzo
I just ran across this reference and am unfamiliar with it either as a fairy tale or as a musical production (c. 1900). Is anyone on the board familiar with it?

Re: Does anyone know "The White Fox" by Okakura Ka
I wasn't familiar with it before your mention, but this site has the text. It's decribed as: THE WHITE FOX: A Fairy Drama in Three Acts Written for Music by Okakura-Kakuzo Boston February, 1913
Here's the url:

It's supposedly based on the Japanese legend of the fox-woman Kuzunoha. Here's an url to the story:

Kuzunoha was a popular subject for Japanese artists.

Thanks, Richard
Okakura was, among other things, the curator of the Boston Museum's Oriental collection during the last decade or so of the 19th C. I was very curious to know about his musical when I saw it referenced as a "fairy theme". Thank you for the reference.

Re: Thanks, Richard
I should thank _you_. An hour after I read the details of the original legend I was knee deep in a new story.
