Pardon me ...
Pardon me if this is an inappropriate place to post this question, but ... Is the Fairy Tales and Folklore Writers Group active? I've been trying to reach Kerrie via her email and having no luck.
Thanks.

hang in there. kerrie might be away.
i haven't visited in a while. still summoning up the courage to post anything.
it is generally quieter than this board, but people do post new stuff, or critique each other's work. you may just need to be a bit patient to get a response.
there is some superb stuff on there though.

Kinda what I figured, good stuff and the moderator away from the board. I thought it would be a good idea to check, though, just in case.
Thanks!

Re: writers forum
Don't worry... there hasn't been a post over there since 11/8 and there hasn't been an in-depth discussion since July.
The last few "new topics" are hardly worth the effort
to click your mouse button.

Oh. Hm. Perhaps when Kerri comes back and opens the door for me
-- still need to register there -- we can wake things up. You did
say you have something you're thinking about posting, didn't you?
My question about the soul of faerie pertains to a work in progress
and I wouldn't mind talking about it in some depth with other writers
who would be interested in hearing about it.

I emailed Kerrie
at her new email address w/her married name to let her know people were asking about the writers' forum. She usually checks it a couple of times a week. She is almost always responsive unless she is ill or away from her computer. HOpefully, your wait will soon be over.

Jess, thanks. Perhaps she's out of town for the holiday. I'd be ... if I didn't have a book to revise by the 15th of next month. As it is, I'm here, revising and plotting Thanksgiving dinner. I shall possess my soul in patience.

Re: Pardon me ...
Apologies to all,
I have been away from the board all weekend since my DSL server went down. It was painful, but enough about that.
Nancy, welcome to SurLaLune and I have sent you the password for the Writers' Discussion Board. I will try to hunt Kerrie down and see what is going on there.
The Writers' Discussion Board has always been sporadic and I am considering discontinuing it. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, please feel free to post them here or e-mail me privately. I'll give it another month or so but will consider dismantling it sometime after the new year if the uproar isn't overwhelming.
Welcome again, Nancy, and all you new lurkers out there!

Re: Pardon me ...
Just so that I don't offend anyone, that remark about "the
last few posts..." was at myself!
Anyhow, I'm sure the original idea was valid. Perhaps it was to provide a place where one could post a serious discussion without making it absolutely public. The question becomes, do you(all) still need that? Do those of you that go there, find it enough of a sanctuary to continue usage? Is it still a valid area for other reasons?
As for me, I will go with the majority.

Re: Pardon me ...
Heidi,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I hope I haven't stirred up a fuss about the Writer's Discussion board.
I've been lurking for some time, using the Fairy Tales and Folklore Discussion board for references as I put together my thoughts for a new novel. I think this whole site is a terrific resource and you've done a wonderful job with it.
Having no right to an opinion on the fate of the writer's board, I'll bow out and say that it could be a good place to hang out and talk about specific works in progress, but it certainly is mighty nice here, too.
Best,
Nance

Re: Pardon me ...
I was personally hoping for a little more feed-back from the board. I like it and I have no problems posting there, but it is a bit disheartening to see the number of views you get when you post something.
Maybe Nancy is right maybe we could liven it up a little if all of us who have access take the time to actually read and critique each other, I am as much as fault here, and I am not pointing any fingers.
I would Love to see Rym's story, the one where you were looking for an artist, by the way did you ever check out Travis Tom's stuff Rym?

Val,
If you mean few views rather than many can be disheartening, I would imagine that's so. Lots, with trenchant commentary would be the best, eh? ;-)
How has the criticism been, though? Me, I don't know because I haven't posted yet. I do have something from a short story I'd like to run by the group after I finish revising PRISONER OF HAVEN in mid-December.

Re: Pardon me ...
I love techy discussions with other writers. I've been a bit shy here because my stuff is neither professional scholarship, nor dark edgy fiction. :-)
If the board isn't working as a crit site, would it be easier to maintain as a public discussion board?

Re: Pardon me ...
Heh. And I thought I was the shy one
I've not had the courage to join the other board but have been pretty curious about its contents. Have no say over everything, but I suspect private is best if you guys want to post stuff for critiques because you don't want to inadvertantly lose your first publication rights when you post something over the `net. This is something I'm learning about too, though I kind of suspected it before. So, I only post stuff on my site that I'm sure I will only self-publish (as opposed to putting the work through the pain/agony of the submission process). Now that I'm working and priming a lot of stuff to test various markets, I keep that off my pages. Well, anyway, that's my two cents.

Re: Pardon me ...
Nancy,
I mean few views. The comments are fantastic, and very helpful, from what I have read.
Yes lots of views with trenchant, lol I had to look that word up
commets would be great.
Rosemary,
I stand with Anita about making it open. I would feel even less comfortable posting anything there that I thought had a shot at getting published. I was having kittens just thinking about posting what I did post there because the idea was mine, and I didn't want anyone else walking away with it.
As for being shy, let me paraphrase Stephen King, love his stuff or hate his stuff, he is a successful writer, and his advice is more or less this, why are you writing if you're scared of someone seeing it?
I'm going to the Writer's Board and thorw in my two-cents, on several of the stories. I hope to see you guys there.
