Radio Fairy Tales and the like
Here is another e-mail I received which I don't have the time to research. Anyone else have any recommendations?
"I am a volunteer working with residents at a local veterans home. One of my main activities is to play old time radio programs for the residents which works fine for most of the population, as most of them can comprehend and enjoy most of the shows from the 30s and 40s, as long as I select shows
where the plot is not too difficult to follow.
"However, there is one group that I have been working with that cannot enjoy the typical radio programs. I experimented with a couple of fairy tales that were recorded by Harold Perry (The Great Gildersleeve), probably in the late 40s. The residents really liked Cinderella and Hanzel and Gretel. Mr.
Perry only recorded 7 of these tales (to my knowledge), all of which are mentioned in your website.
"Can you tell me if any of the fairy tales mentioned in your website are available in the form of the spoken word in a way similar to the Harold Perry recordings? Having material available in the form of the spoken word allows me better interaction with the residents than if I were to read from
a book.
"I would like to do more work with this group and for some reason, perhaps long term memory, these stories, originally meant for children, are entertaining for them."

Hello,
I love Old Time Radio, and there is an extensive presence of OTR fans on the web, so you might try your question there as well.
I can't think of any particular recordings of this type of tale, except for the Christmas classic The Cinnamon Bear, which isn't so much a fairy tale as it is a magical children's story. Still, if they respond to this sort of thing, it might be worth looking into, particularly for the holiday season.

Recorded Tales
Have you tried Recorded Books or Books on Tape with your seniors? Recorded Books has Just So Stories by Kipling, and Books on Tape has 2 on Greek Myths. There are probably other anthologies out there for children. Maybe you library has some.
