Mouse
Hello!
I'm a new one. I hope You can help me - I'm looking for variants of a tale. In short, the mouse decided to marry, but it wanted to marry for the daughter of the strongest creature in the world. So it went to the sun, but the sun sent it to the clouds, they sent it to the wind etc., etc. At last it married another mouse.
I know Bulgarian, Russian and Nanajan variants. Does anybody know about any others an how could I have the texts?
My e-mail is andreybobev@abv.bg

Re: Mouse
Sounds like the story of the stonemason who wished to be as powerful as the sun that burnt him as he worked, so he was made into the sun who's view of the earth was blocked by the clouds, so he wished to be made a cloud but the cloud was blown about by the wind, so he wished to be the wind but it was stopped by a mountain, so he wished to be made the mountain, which was being quarried by some stonemasons.

Re: Mouse
I've no idea unfortunately. I only the story because of some carnival costumes I was working on. That part of the parade was illustrating the story.
I think it is far eastern in origin, but I'm not sure.

Re: Mouse
In fact I have also a Romanian, Japanese and "Panchatantra" vresions, and two African - from Ethiopia and Angola. A friend of mine is now checking for an American variant, but I still have no news about that.
Thanks for the link - I knew that site, it's really very good. But I had not noticed this text - I used the others at the same place - www.pitt.edu/~dash/type0402.html
