Hallmark's "Snow Queen"
Did any of you watch this? I'd love to hear your comments/opinions about this (long!) movie.

Re: Hallmark's "Snow Queen"
Drat! I was out last night and meant to tape it and forgot. Was it worth watching? Will it be on again?

Re: Hallmark's "Snow Queen"
Oooo- I missed it! Looks like it was good too!

Did anyone ever see "Hans Christian Andersen: My Life as a Fairy Tale"? (I collect fairy tale films- whether individual stories or about the authors.)

Does anyone know of upcoming movies? (TV or theatrical release)

Re: Hallmark's "Snow Queen"
I haven't seen the film, Kerrie, or really heard of any other upcoming films. The rumor here in Burbank is that Disney is going to do/is doing "The Nightingale" for an upcoming animated theatrical release. The story as described to me by one of the animators does not greatly resemble the tale I know though.

Nightingale
Since the "Nightingale" story is fairly short, and short on plot as well (not to mention some very Victorian non pc ideas about China!) I would expect that a full thetrical release would have to do a lot of additional stuff.

If I were doing it, I would want to begin with a lot of court stuff, backbiting, factions, the constant battles for pride of place. Something about the emperor and how, though he is the ruler of the land, he is entirely alone, though surrounded all the time by courtiers. Then segue into the poorer sections of the kingdom where the little maid comes from. See her and her family in their own setting and how they live off of the leavings of the courtiers. Hoe they, too, jockey for position.

Then a set piece with the maid and the bird before she lets the emperor in on its existence. They are the only three who connect on a personal level, no jockeying, no seeking something else.

That's the first thirty minutes.

Sounds wonderful
Jane,

Why don't you write it? I mean another YA tale! I had such great visions just by what you described.

Snow Queen Question
I loved the movie, but for anyone that saw it, why were the other seasons trying to stop her from getting to the snow queen? Thanks!

Seasons...
If I remember the original story correctly, the woman with the flower hat wants a daughter, and the robber-girl wants her to be like a pet or sister or something. I don't remeber the prince and princess trying to hold her back. The only thing I can think of, if they were purposely trying to prevent her from leaving, would be they were testing her, to see how strong her love was. (If I understnad correctly, the story was changed from being about 2 friends to being a love story.) Not sure if this helps answer your question. Wish I saw it.

Snow Queen
I saw some the movie while I was babysitting. Now I can't wait for the DVD to come out in January so I can see the parts I missed. Even though it was long (extremely!) I loved the parts of it I got to see!

The nightengale movie
Maybe they should adapt Kara Dalkey's novel!
