To Carrie - Native American Lore
Carrie,
Whatever happened to your project on N.A. myths and folklore regarding land formations? Are you still collecting? Was it published? If so, where? I am intensely interested in this project and would like a copy/reprint if you did publish.

legends
Hi Jess. I wrote a piece on the Navajo creation story and its links to landforms, which landed as the cover for the April 2003 isue of Arizona Highways. Send me your address and I'll mail you a copy. carrie.miner@cox.net
As to the rest of it, I have a book proposal written and interest from a few publishers. Currently it focuses on the Southwest, but I'd like to expand it for other markets later on. I'm still looking for places though, so if you come across any -- I'd love to hear about them. I'm also still collecting animal stories. I did a two hour presentation last week on Coyote and a piece I wrote on roadrunners won an award of merit from the International Regional Magazine Awards. It was nice to be recognized and now it's made me greedy for more.
I also have a nonfiction title -- Little Known Stories About Well Known Places -- coming out in 2004. It will have some tales on Arizona landscapes and legends, if you are interested. I'm fascinated with stories that link the natural and supernatural worlds. I like the idea that at places like Navajoland you are actually walking on sacred ground -- it's like discovering the Garden of Eden on Earth.
Cheers.

Keith Basso
Carrie,
Have you used Keith Basso's work on Western Apache? Really interesting stuff about story and landscape. He has a book out now, I believe.

Congratulations
Carrie,
Congratulations on the cover project and the award! That is exciting news. I will email you with my address.
I think I already shared with you the story I found out regarding the Olympic Mountains. Let me know if I didn't and I will mail you what I remember (and the source document if I can find it).
Keep us posted about the book.
