Fred
and me: An appreciation
Slowly we are losing our culture heros. Jim Henson and Mister Rogers
were my two favorites. They helped foster my imagination as a child,
and still do through their films and shows. I wish we had another
to carry on where they left off in television and film. Sadly I
see none truly rising to their place of honor in my heart.
It is truly a sad day.
Sugarplum dreams,

Goodbye
My daughter's first crush was Mr. Rogers, My son Adam adored Mr. Roger's quiet authority.
The next to last year's Christopher Medal ceremony, when DINOSAURS was one of the winners, also honored Fred Rogers for his life work. I went up to shake his hand. I was really in awe. He looked at me, took my hand, and said, "Thank you for the beautiful books you do for children. You honor us all."
And I walked away, even more awed than before.
I cried this morning. A great and GOOD man.

Mr. Rogers
A friend of mine lived near Mr. Rogers when she was a PhD student
at Pitt. She said she would see him at the grocery store, on the
street, around their neighborhood. He was very unassuming and a
very gentle soul. No one would know that he was a giant of television.
Just having him around made it seem more like home to her. Btw,
he didn't wear that blue cardigan.
He will be missed by many.
