tales about homecoming
Hello, lovely people!
I have to come up with something interesting for a Christmas program at my church. I'd thought of telling a short story with the theme of finding one's true home, or homecoming, and tying it in with the idea that earth is not our true home...Jesus coming to us so that we could get to our true home, etc.. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: tales about homecoming
Rhonda,
This is not exactly what you described, but have you thought of
Patricia Polacco's Christmas
Tapestry? It is beautiful tale of the story of a chuch pastor
who moves to a church in need of a lot of repair. A leak ruins the
sacristy wall, but they find a tapestry to cover the hole. An older
jewish woman they befriended recognizes it as the one she sewed
for her marriage Chuppah. On Christmas eve, an elderly jewish carpenter
comes to repair the sacristy and recognizes the tapestry as well--he
is the elderly woman's husband whom she thought lost in the Holocaust.
The story ties in the blessings of Christmas with the blessings of life, without being preachy or condescending. It's also wonderfully illustrated.
All the best,
Alice
