Pictures, lithographs
My real reason for this thread is to find a picture: it has two toddlers in the foreground, looking out at a giant walking, or maybe he's cloud formations ... it's ambiguous. Anybody know details on this? I want to find it.
...and: what illustrations do you find wonderful?
There's the one with the young woman looking at the fairies dancing in the fairy ring ...
The Bros. Hildebrandt calendars (not fairy tales, but still good) ...

The illustration you are describing sounds like "The Giant" by N.C. Wyeth. Lovely piece.
We've had a number of discussions in the past on favorite illustrators and 'visionary artists'. Charles Vess (terrific artist himself) has posted a page of visionary art and artists. You can see the link at: www.surlalunefairytales.com/boardarchives/2001/oct2001/invitetoseevisionary.html
In fact - Charles, I was going to ask if you had indeed aquired those Folio fairy tale editions - and if they lived up to their promise. I'd love to hear how the Charles Van Sandwyk book turned out. I so enjoy his work.

Brothers Hildebrandt
The Brothers Hildebrandt, although best known for their work on Tolkien calenders, have illustrated many fairy tales. I own a copy of Greg Hildebrandt's Favorite Fairy Tales. This book contains some of his finest work in my opinion. He also illustrated two collections of fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm.
I would also highly recommend Scott Gustafson. You can find all his work at www.greenwichworkshop.com. His work is ideal for someone who is a fan of fairy tales as well as fine art.
