French Salons
Hi I'm new here! (hello ^_^)
I have a question, and I can't find a fairly straight answer and I was hoping someone could tell me.
I'm doing an assignment about fairy tales and of course I've come
accross Perrault and Marie Catherine d'Aulnoy and all the research
I've done mentions French Salons, but I can't find out any information
about French salons!!
So basically my question is: What IS a French Salon???
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks so much! ^_^ \/

Re: French Salons
For an easy-to-find and quick to read introduction to the French Salons, read Jack Zipes' introduction to his collection of translated French tales, "Beauty and the Beast and Other French Tales." The book is available in paperback at almost any bookstore. Here's a link to it on Amazon:

In essence, the salons were groups of writers writing for their entertainment and critique of the society they inhabited. They used fairy tales as a sly way of expressing their views.
