Laura McCaffrey Registered User (4/16/03 3:05 pm)	Salt over the shoulder Hey all - Spilled salt on the table today and did what was drummed in to me from an early age by my grandmother, took a pinch and threw it over my shoulder. I've never wondered about it, just always done it. I'm now curious about the significance and origin. Anyone heard of this? Laura Mc

If you spill salt, you've desecrated something holy, and you must pick it up with your 'good' hand (right) and throw it over your left shoulder to blind the Devil/evil spirits so that they cannot take the opportunity to do you harm.
