I need help!!!!
Hello to all that read this. My girlfriend read this book once that she instantly fell in love with; its an asian fairy tale about soul mates. She can't remember the name of the book, and she can only remember a few things about the story. One of the things that she said that sticks out in MY mind is a part in the story where it tells about before we are all born, and the "angles" bless us by touching our upper lip, thus causing that little dent in out lip. Other than that, I can't really help much, and I don't know where to look. Maybe someone can help me?? Perhaps someone would know this story, or maybe they can just point me in the right direction to look? That would be very helpful... and *sush*! If I find it, it'll be a surprise!! Thanks for your time!

babies in heaven
in our family, such a story was told about how chidren come to earth, and before they come, God tells them they cannot speak of heaven for otherwise peole will not tay on earth and do their work ...but even though the babies are not allowed to "tell" God says they will remember heaven always and long for it in their dreams. God puts a finger to the babies' lips to hush their speaking of heaven directly ...and this special gentle touch is what in humans, makes that tender indentation below the mentum of the nose.
I have the sense Mr. Mike, that this might be a story that is told in many different kinds of ways to many kinds of children worldwide; that it has, as they say, many variants, that it is not of any nation per se, but--from the way I personally think, from the collective unconscious. The tales that tell how rabbit got its ears , how table rock became a table, how humans got ears, all tales of those kind, at leastin my travels, seem to pop up in every language somehow.
I do not know the asian fairy tale about soul mates. let us know if you find it...
hope this helps a bit...

Dent in the Upper Lip
I know that the origin of the philtrum being the thumbprint of angels is told in the Philippines, but as CPE says, it might be told in many places. Can you tell us a little more about the book? Were there two specific lovers that were soul mates or was the story about soul mates in general?

Well.....
Well, what both of you said sounds about right, but like I said, she can't quite remember. I think its about two lovers, but, at the same time, it might be in general. I'm not quite sure. I know it has to do with God, or angles or something like that putting His finger to our lips to hush us about something (I can only assume that its about Heaven, or soulmates, or both). Does anyone know if its in a book??

Re: Well.....
I may be expressing my ignorance here, so feel free to correct me.
You described it as Asian, how so?
Also if it were Asian, of a classical nature, wouldn't it be less Christian?
Once again, I'm most likely expressing my ignorance about the spread of christianity in eastern culture... Please correct me if I'm totally off the mark.

Christian Asia
Actually, that's the other reason I thought it might be a Filipino story, since the Philippines is, by and large, the only Catholic country in Asia.
