Got a paranormal/sf/fantasy romance novel ready to publish?
A friend passed this on to me:
"From:Anna.Genoese@tor.com
My name is Anna Genoese and I am an acquiring
editor at Tor Books.
Tor is part of Tom Doherty Associates (which also
publishes Forge Books;
Forge does a couple of traditional romance novels
every once in a while),
and recently we've decided (mostly due to my
nagging!) to expand into
publishing more romance. I'm really the only editor
here actively
interested in working in romance, so I figure that a
good way to hook the
interest of romance novelists is to talk to the
local chapters. I was at
RWA National in Denver this year and met some great
people who were really
encouraging -- and here I was under the impression
that most romance authors
aren't really interested in writing
paranormal/sf/fantasy romances!
I'm looking for unique and original dark
fantasy/sf, erotic
fantasy/sf, paranormal/sf/speculative romance/"chick
lit". Romantic
paranormal mystery/suspense is fine (i.e., J.D.
Robb/Nora Roberts, Linda
Howard), but I'm not looking for straight romantic
mystery/suspense.
Romantic historical fantasy (i.e., Juliet Marillier,
Jacqueline Carey, Delia
Sherman) is acceptable, but no straight romantic
historicals. The romance
cannot be an afterthought -- but neither can the
plot! The romance should
comprise 50% or less of the main story. I am open
to non-traditional
romances (multi-racial/ethnic, multi-spiritual,
homosexual, etc.) as well as
traditional ones.
Would anyone in your chapter would be interested
in submitting?
This is definitely an open call for submissions --
please pass the word
along. I'd be perfectly willing to come out to a
meeting some time and help
critique works, answer questions about what I am
looking for and my
submissions policy, etc.
(If anyone is interested: Submissions should be
sent via email or
post: 1-2 page synopsis, the first 3 chapters or 60
pages of your work. No
simultaneous submissions, no query letters. Only one
piece of work per
email/envelope. No phone pitches, but if anyone
needs to double-check
whether I received something, or whether I am
interested in a particular
genre, they should.)
I'm going to be contacting other RWA chapters on
the eastern side of
the country; if you can think of any chapters I
should specifically seek
out, please let me know. Any help would be much
appreciated.
Thanks for your time!
cheers,
