Billy Goats Gruff
I was very happy to see this link as I've been meaning to look up this tale myself. I just returned from the East coast where I made a delightful visit to Winterthur - an old DuPont estate in Brandywine Valley, Delaware. More specifically to their new "Enchanted Woods - A Fairy-Tale Garden". If anyone is close enough to go check this out, (especially in the company of children. I had various nieces and nephews in ecstatic attendance) I highly recommend it!

It is an impressive and enchanting garden, complete with thatched cottages and tree houses, mushroom fairy circles (that fill with fog if you enter them after ignoring the "Never enter a fairy ring!" sign), stone circles, all kinds of antique architechtural elements, a green man sculpture rising out of the earth, a labyrinth and a 'troll bridge' among other things. After my niece ran across the bridge, I wanted to tell her the B.G. Gruff story, and couldn't remember it in enough detail to do it justice.

Charles had posted the artist website of James Browne in an earlier thread - and many of his illustrations are out of a children's book that gives a fictional origin story of this garden.

All in all, a very worthwhile visit. This garden is enchanting. The rest of the estate and gardens are incredibly beautiful, and the museum exhibits are impressive as well. My promo for the day. :-)
