copyrights on old illistrations
I am a beadwork designer and am interested in useing a portion of an old illistration (little red riding hood) done by Gustave Dore, 1867. Does anyone know the laws regarding copyrights on old artwork/illistrations? I would appreciate any input on this subject. Thanks.

PD
1923 seems to be the date when things go PD (public Domain) though proper attribution should still be observed.

copyright
Jane, Thanks for the info. I have since learned that just to be on the safe side, I should consult a copyright lawyer and I plan on doing this. Also having done some artwork myself, I have no problems crediting the artist whom inspires me to create a new design. Thanks again, Gen.
