Beauty & the Beast HELP
Someone directed me to this site with the thought that someone on here may be able to help me out. I'm trying to find out the setting for the story of Beauty & the Beast. I know that the author most accredited for the story is Madame Le Prince de Beaumont, and that she wrote it in 1756. What I don't know, is when the actual story takes place. Is this story one of those "once upon a time" type of setting, or was there any landmarks or anything that would give us an idea of the time period that the story was set in? I wanna know the setting for the mostly reknowned version of this tale please.

B & B
The author set the tale in a "once upon a time" type
imaginary world, not a real setting at a real time. Her imaginary
land, however, is influenced by the culture she lived in: France
in the middle of the 18th century. Her work was also influenced
by the French salon Fairy Tale writers who preceded her in the
late 17th century, such as Madame D'Aulnoy.
Here's a short article on the history of Beauty and the Beast:

Well, that's odd. When my last comment was posted, the links were totally screwed up -- and the edit button was missing. I'll try again. Here are the two links:

For Terri- re: Edit button...
If you log in (not the name and password requested when posting,
but at the top of the entire discussion board), the edit button
should appear.
