Fairy Tales make Newsweek!
Has anyone seen the article in the latest Newsweek about the book _Red Riding Hood Uncloaked_? Anyone read this book yet? It sounded interesting, and at the very least it was cool that a fairy tale book randomly appeared in Newsweek.

Re: Fairy Tales make Newsweek!
We just bought the book, after hearing the author interviewed on an NPR show (originating at WBUR in Boston) called "The Connection," with guests Maria Tatar and the author of LRR UNCLOAKED, Catherine Orenstein. The guest host was NPR's Jacki Lyden.
www.theconnection.org/sho...b_main.asp
should get you to a page about it, and you can click there to hear the entire hour, or hear highlights from Tatar & Orenstein.
It's a call-in show, and we were delighted to hear one caller mention Angela Carter & Terri Windling in the same breath!

Re: Fairy Tales make Newsweek!
I've just read Red Riding Hood Uncloaked, and it's a wonderful book, I highly recommend it.
In discussing modern renditions of Red Riding Hood, the author doesn't seem to be entirely au courant with works outside of the mainstream -- she mentions Tanith Lee and Francesca Lia Block at least, but I misses such gems as Nalo Hopkinson's Riding the Red, Wendy Wheeler's Little Red, or Ellen Steiber's Silver and Gold. That quibble aside, it's a good volume, and sure to help boost fairy tale popularity. Plus it mentions Kate's book, Mirror, Mirror!

Red Riding Hood
Does it mention "Wildwood" by Frances Gordon? That was my favourite modern rendition. Excellent read.
