ferris wheel, fairies wheel
sorry, I posted this under Cities. I'm just figuring this posting business out. Now I know to start a 'new topic'... so here tis:
Once upon a time, someone somewhere told me (or I dreamed) that the ferris wheel was originally a fairy's (or fairies) wheel. That it was made of ??? and set afire and let roll down a hill to symbolize fate and also to symbolize (perhaps) the passing of the seasons and the return of the sun, I guess. Well, I looked on Grandfather Google and found that, indeed and disappointingly, a man named George Ferris built the first ferris wheel in Chicago. Does this mean it was never a fairies wheel. Does anyone know any stories about the fairies wheel? Thanks so much, Angelyn

I have a feeling....
...that these might be two seperate things. I doubt if George Ferris knew about faerie's wheels, but then again, who knows? I haven't heard of the latter myself. It would be interesting to know if there is/was such a thing. I never could get the straight poop about the Christmas tree's relation to the wicker men, either, and if there really was an evolution from burning people in cage statues and the modern day lighted tree in our living rooms.
