Analysis: Donkey
skin aka all skin
This is one of my favorite fairy tales, but i have found little
on it. also does any one know of any retellings besides deerskin.

Leah: Donkeyskin is favorite of people on the board--and well known. You can find it under a variety of names in anthologies from Tattercoats, Furball, Sapsorrow and Alleriuah. As for analysis I have provided the website address on the Endicott Studio's forum for a wonderful article by Helen Pilinovsky that should give you much to think about.

As a future reference, I think you might want to reconsider posting the entire tale on the board--partially because it takes up a lot of space--especially when it's a tale many of us know, and partially out of concern for copyright--if it's your own version of the tale you may miss the opportunity to publish elsewhere in the future, if it's someone else's retelling you may be infringing on copyright laws. And finally, the point of your post was the question at the end--that's asking people to read through a lot to get at what you want from us, which is information. I hope I don't sound rude, it's just that the board works really well as an avenue for discussion--I believe there is another site for fairy tale writing? (Heidi am I right?)

Dear Leah:
The version that you post is quite interesting - does it come from a specific edition, or is it your own? I like the heroine's suspicion of the fairy's fallacious advice - quite apropos, and quite believable. There are, as Midori says, quite a lot of available variants and modern retellings - the most comprehensive list that I've been able to find was composed by Russell A. Peck, and can be found here:

The version is actually from my website, and yes, Midori, I agree with you that it would be better for the entire story not to be posted, a link would be better, such as this one here:

And then the link should be followed by the question for brevity's sake. And the version, by the way, is from The Grey Fairy Book, an adaptation from the Cabinet de Fees according to the source note.
I just added Margaret Evans Price's illustration for Furball, a Donkeyskin variant, on SurLaLune. There is also one illustration by Helen Stratton which reminded me very much of Robin McKinley's Deerskin, more so than many of the other illustrations have.
