"Women Writers" and "Fairy Tale Catalog"
Hello All,
Sorry I have been absent for a bit. I do lurk and make sure everything is running smoothly, but I haven't had much time for anything else the last few weeks.
I did want to give everyone the heads up on two new books of interest:
The first is:
"Twice upon a Time: Women Writers and the History of the Fairy Tale"
by Elizabeth Wanning Harries.
It has just been released, so I have no clear idea of what all is included in it. Once I learn more, I will let you know.
The second is a picture book with a twist:
The Fairy Tale Catalog : Everything You Need to Make a Fairy Tale"
by Sally Gardner
I saw this one at a trade show briefly and what I saw was charming. It is a cross between a "shopping catalog" and a glossary of fairy tale motifs. It appeared to be great for all ages. It reminds me of the fairy tale vending machine mentioned in another conversation, actually.
Finally, for the TV minded:
ABC will be airing "The Ugly Stepsister" in October, based on Gregory Maguire's book. CBS will be airing "Jack and the Beanstalk" starring Matthew Modine in November. And the miniseries of "A Wrinkle in Time" has been slated for February 2, 2002. I have seen none of these, but they will probably interest some of you!

Re. Wrinkle in Time
Hey all,
I have a friend who worked on the production of _A Wrinkle in Time_. She said that it will be quite different from the book - so much of the story was Meg's interior life which was difficult to translate into cinema. I'll probably try to watch it for my friend's sake, but I must admit to having had a passionate single-minded devotion to that book as a child and I don't know that a new "cinematic retelling", so to speak, will thrill me.
