On Heroes and Heroines
Hello everyone, i'm new to this discussion forum but i have a few questions.
A friend of mine and I where having a dbate the other night on the advantages of certain heroes and heroines in fairytales.
I argue that the girls get the coolest things. Fairy Godmothers, rags to riches stories etc. and that the guys almost always start out a prince or noble and have very little work to do for happily ever after. She then countered with Arabian Nights tales of Aladdin and the others of his ilk. Still I'd like to know what the rest of you think onn this, and any examples you may have that could prove advantageous for either side of this friendly debate.

Heros and Heroines
Max King of all Wild Things-
The first thing that popped into my head is Puss n' Boots - a smart, sassy talking cat that helps his poor peasant win the princess. Then there is the White Cat - another amazing feline -(and my favorite fairy tale) who helps the prince win the kingdom. Some of the Russian tales include magic stoves, among other inanimate objects, that assist male heros. I think the princess and the glass hill had a hero with special assistance as well.
I am sure I am just scratching the surface, but there are many out there even more qualified to fill you in.

heroes
Don't forget all those youngest sons who go on to win a kingdom or riches or the hand of the princess, from Russian (Fool of the World) and German and English (Dick Whittington) and Norwegian (Eating with Trolls stories) and French (Puss in Boots) and American (the Jack tales) folklore. This off the top of my head.

Greek Mythology
max king of all wild things -
If you like heros, why not look to Greek mythology which has all kinds of heros being aided by the help of gods and goddesses. My favorite is the story of Perseus who slew Medusa with the help of a shield from Athena and winged-sandals from Hermes. How about the story of Atlanta whose hand is won by Milanion who distracts her in a foot race with three golden apples that Aphrodite (Venus) gives him? Those are some fun ones.
Anyone else want to add something?
