For a few distracting whimsical moments...
You can learn your fairy name at:
www.whiteelephant.ndo.co.uk/fairies/
I got this in an e-mail and thought I would pass it along. The analytical part of me had fun figuring out how it works--because it will assign you the same name over and over instead of randomly.

Re: For a few distracting whimsical moments...
Dear Heidi:
Apparently, our fairy selves are close relations. I come out as:
Yarrow Pepperwand
Behaviour
A player of tricks on small children and old folk.
Seen When
Only when the seer holds a four-leafed clover.
Habitat
Close to vixen and badger sets.
I think that they must use cookies to track users ... though, if you type in a different name from a different computer and still get the same fairy identity ... then, it's magic.
Best,
Helen

Apparently I am a guardian of the birds, Seen only on Midsummer's Eve, and I live in forests of oak and lime...

very funny
Well...if I put in my name, I am Columbine Sliverspider: protector from demons and a poisoner of werewolves...seen when dry seeds cases pop...and I live in mushroom fields and quiet meadows.
of course if I put in my married name, I'm Columbine Hallispider...and the rest is the same.
it's a funny little parlor trick. Thanks Heidi for passing it on...it's almost like being in fairy camp.

a delightful moment
Thanks for passing that on-as Berry Beamglimmer, I bring light and enlightenment-and t'is true I am often found at the bottom of tangled gardens (digging roots) and in hedgerows, picking long thorns off the hawthorns for heart magic and medicine...

Re: a delightful moment
It is fun, isn't it?
I think the engine looks at the initials of our names to generate a fairy equivalent. Thus Helen and I are both Yarrow. Last names beginning with T bring up variations of snow. My married name translates to Yarrow Snowwand.
But I will also just believe it is fairy dust making the computer work!

re: whimsical moments
Thanks Heidi!
With my married name I'm Bramble Limeweb, creator of bounty and harvest. (this must be a reference to fertility - it certain isn't my gardening or cooking ability!) Seen only in the mist of an early morning and dwelling in leafy dells and bluebell glades.
Maiden name brings up Bramble Windweb - which I must say I think I prefer - and bringer of light breezes and changer of weather. The rest is the same.
Delightful. Laura Mc

whimsical moments---hobbit names
If, like myself, you are not as ethereal as a fairy, you can discover your hobbit name at

Fairy names
As all the writers here know, naming characters isn't easy -- so I'm impressed with how good so many of these computer generated names sound. Except, er, my own. I think I'll stick with Windling, thanks. And if anyone calls me Buttercup, I'll deck them.
-- Buttercup Windwand
(A bringer of light breezes and a changer of weather; dweller in clover fields where fairy rings grow.)

This IS fun...
My fairy name:
Thorn Vinefrost
Behaviour:
A caster of love spells.
Seen When:
Only during the first snow of winter.
Habitat:
In brambles and blackberry bushes.
Re: "Habitat"...well, they got that wrong unless I just haven't noticed the brambles growing about my drawing boards. On second thought what an ideal way to treat deadlines: huddled in a tall tower, forgotten by the world as I draw, and draw, and draw. Every day the hedge grows higher and it becomes more and more difficult for the pizza delivery guy to find the entrance buzzer. Hmmmm, maybe this would work as a dieting method too.

names
Well it turns out my hobbit name is Daisy Gamwich -- I don't think so. Therefore, I must be closer in relation to fairies -- that name came up as Thorn Limeweb. This I suppose would mean that I am a creator of bounty and harvest seen only in the mist of early morning, which would make sense seeing as both of children (5-year-old twin boys with a penchant for getting up with the sun) came up as casters of weird dreams. It isn't a nightmare then -- I'm awake. Fairy tales are cruel in nature indeed. ARGHHH...

Re: names
I really don't want to admit this, but this is what comes up with Kerrie Colantonio:
Voodoo Catwand
Behaviour
A playful stalker of small animals.
Seen When
Only when the seer holds a four-leafed clover.
Habitat
In places hexed and tainted by black magic.
If I take McNay for my married name:
Voodoo Limewand
Behaviour
A creator of bounty and harvest.
Seen When
Only when the seer holds a four-leafed clover.
Habitat
In places hexed and tainted by black magic.
Now for hobbit names:
Tigerlily Moss of Lake-by-Downs
or
Tigerlily Bulge of Hobbiton
I'm not sure which is most befitting of me, so I'll just go by:

::grin::
I'd never thought of myself as a creator of bounty and harvest, or as an early riser for that matter...

Hobbits and the fay
My fairy self is
Bramble Silverweb
Behaviour
A protector from evil demons and a poisoner of werewolves.
Seen When
Only in the mist of an early morning.
Habitat
In leafy dells and bluebell glades.
Fun, as I've lately been fighting some demons on behalf of my sweetie. Especially cute that he shows up as "A cleanser of the soul and a peace-bringer," which is what I become if I were to take his name some day. Hmmm ....
As for Hobbit identity, I come up as Ruby Sandybanks. I think I rather like that. :-) How are some of you getting locations too? I've never seen that on this page -- it doesn't come up for me.
