Three Nuts for Cinderella
Hello all,

I have received the following inquiry through e-mail and wonder if anyone else has any knowledge of a video or even written version of this tale. It sounds familiar but I can't place it or take the time to research it extensively at them moment.

Here goes:

"Perhaps you could direct me as to where I could begin searching for a television adaptation of Cinderella I remember seeing as a child in the 1970's.

"'Three Nuts for Cinderella', was basically the Cinderella story but while riding in a horse drawn wagon, three golden acorns fall into her lap giving her three wishes.

"All I can remember is that it was an English or British version and was brought to you by a kids weekend show called 'Peanuts and Popcorn'."

Thanks!

Heidi

Three nuts for Cinderella
Heidi,
the only version with that title that I know of is one of my absolute favourites - I am not sure, though, if it exists in English. There is a film in my native Germany with the title "Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel" (three hazel-nuts for Cinderella) and it is a film from former Tchechoslovakia. I suspect it to be a then-East-German and Tchechoslovakian co-production, as it is set at the castle of Moritzburg in Sachsen.
Cinderella has quite some "girl power" - she rides a horse (better than the prince, or at least as good as him), shoots better than him and his companions, and dances - which he doesn't. Her first meeting with the prince is not exactly romantic - she throws a snowball at him. She also climbs trees and is rather independent - and speaking up to her stepmother. And when the prince asks her to get married - she refuses him with a riddle. The solution to that reveals that she is not a princess, and that he has to accept her as she is.
However, it is the stablemaster returning from the market, who has the nuts falling into his lap - and who gives them to Cinderella as a present.
Could that be the story you were looking for??
By the way, the former Thechoslovakia has a great store of beautiful fairy-tale adaptions, with great attention to the right setting. If it is set in the middle ages, then the castle, the means of transport and the clothing fit together, and you wouldn't find a baroque dress, for example. You always get the feeling that the people doing the film have a love and great respect for fairy tale and folklore. There is also usually some humour in them, and if you can get a hold on any of these - watch them.
Best regards, Lotti

Three Nuts
I remember seeing that in about 1976 or so, also.

Found you this link, with info about the director, and where it can be purchased:
