Forthcoming Books?
Does anyone know of any forthcoming fiction title that is tale-related, with a Fall 2001 publication date? Someone may be reviewing my novel for a (very high profile) review publication, but needs other books for the piece that are thematically related. She may go in a different direction with this (that is, relate the books together via a different motif than the tale), but I would like to propel her in this direction.

And, in advance, with sincere apologies to excellent writers not with publishers by choice or otherwise, but these need to be by small press or commercial places, not self-published books.

Novel
The closest I can come this fall is HIPPOLYTA & THE CURSE OF THE AMAZONS (HarperCollins) the second book in the Young Heroes series which I am writing with Scottish author Robert J. Harris.

fall 2001 books
Kate, can you be a little more specific about what you need? Adult fiction rooted in fairy tales, or folklore, or something even more specific?

Books
Jane, Terri, thanks for replying.

The only way I can think of to be more specific, Terri, is to say the books ought to be somehow rooted, as you say, in fairy tales or folklore. I assume they want work that would be considered 'literary fiction' (what a vague and annoying category to me). Also, I think, Jane, for this issue adult fiction is preferred, though I will surely give the reviewer your title, and see. Thanks for the tip. (Also, I may start writing reviews locally on tale-themed work--for all ages.)

forthcoming books
Kate, I asked Richard Kunz about this, who is the person who orders and catalogs the review copies of books we get for Year's Best Fantasy & Horror. Here's his response:

I don't have anything as far distant as this Fall - Publishers Weekly doesn't go
that far ahead and that's the place where I find the mainstream stuff.
Here are 3 that fit the bill but they are all May (or so) ones.

The Nature of Water and Air

Hermes in Paris

Redgunk Tales

-- I don't know if that's much help, but I'll keep my ears open for fall 2001 titles.

Thanks
Terri,

Thanks so much for brainstorming on this one. I'll keep checking PW as well. The books, by the way, don't have to be mainstream aesthetically. My book, as you may have gleaned, is not!

Thanks again, really.

Reviews
I buried this same information in an entirely different discussion, so I thought I'd foreground it here. I'm starting to write reviews for the Oregonian, and would love to be added to review copy lists, or at least press release lists, if you have them and want to maybe be reviewed by me (my policy is I review books I can say good things about).

I know Jane has a title in the fall (I've written to HC to request a review copy, hope that's okay) and I see the one Terri posted, but if anyone wants my contact information, please let me know.

I'm going to review folklore-related titles. Also fiction from small or university presses.

Re: Reviews
How about self-published? Or is that too small of a small press?

Self Publishing
I completely admire self-published writers, and there is a long tradition of that in literature. Many well respected authors self-publish. So, no reason why not (and shoot, that reminds me to mail you that darn check--you must think I'm the biggest idiot!). Of course, all reviews will have to be approved by my editor. As it goes. For us lowlings.
