New Tales for Old
I've finally gotten hold of a copy of Gail's book:
NEW TALES FOR OLD: FOLKTALES AS LITERARY FICTIONS FOR YOUNG ADULTS, edited by Gail de Vos & Anna E. Altmann.

It's a terrific and very useful reference volume. Have other folks here seen it?

Gail: Are you still on this board? Thanks *very* much for mentioning Ellen Datlow and me in your acknowledgements. That means a lot to me.

New Tales for Old
You are welcome Terri: We are truly thankful for all you and Ellen have done. Our second volume has just been sent to the publisher so I am hoping for a fairly quick turnaround (Yeah right!) The tales considered in this new volume are:

Beauty and the Beast

Jack and the Beanstalk/Jack the Giant Killer

The Ballads of Tam Lin and Thomas the Rhymer

Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, Emperor's New Clothes, Princess and the Pea, Little Mermaid and The Wild Swan (also in the Grimms' collections)

We have also included an annotated updating of the stories considered in the new volume. So, I basically have been eating and sleeping the manuscript -- glad to be back though.

Terri,(and anyone else) do let me know what you think. Gail

Gail,

The book is a wonder. I wish I had had it when I first started building my site. I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks my site is helpful and wants more.

thanks
Thanks Heidi: we have included the url to your site in the new book as well since we really enjoy what is happening here. If anyone has any stories/poems etc. that they may feel may have been overlooked, please let me know by emailing me directly at storyteller.devos@telusplanet.net

I just heard from the publisher and they are pretty happy with the manuscript -- just a couple of places where we need to flesh out things so it should go into production pretty soon.

Gail
