Be prepared for new season
A friend who works for ABC informed me that two movies slated for the network this season are a live action Snow White and Gregory Maguire's "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister." Snow White is for Wonderful World of Disney, but it wasn't clear what "Confessions" will be featured as. Should be interesting...........

Also, they are airing a live action version of "A Wrinkle in Time" featuring Alfre Woodard among others.

The Princess Diaries
What does anyone know about this book series, and the upcoming film? Are the books quite popular?

Princess Diaries
The books are popular, but they are not in high demand at my library, Kate. They will probably increase circulation and sales with the movie. The movie looks lighthearted and amusing, like the books. It is more like "The Ordinary Princess" than a Cinderella story though.

Another popular, totally frivolous and fun young adult novel that is competing with Princess Diaries in print is "Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging" by Louise Rennison. It is called the Bridget Jones for young adults, but I like it better than Bridget.

Also, "The Mists of Avalon" airs on TNT tomorrow night if anyone is interested. Looks like a lush production.

Thanks to Shrek, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, it is a year for fantasy at the movies though.

The Mists of Avalon
Oh, does anyone know if there is going to be a video of The Mists of Avalon? I would love to see that production to see how it compares to the book, but I'm in the UK.

Avalon was the first book I ever read about the Arthurian legends, mainly because it dealt more with the women's point of view, and it has spoiled me for other ones, they are just not as interesting.

Thanks

Annette

Video
Annette,
I'm sure when it runs its course, there will be a video. The previous fantasy mini-series--The Odyssey, Merlin, etc.--have all come out on video subsequent to their showings. Usually it's at least 6 months or more, however. Don't know how TNT will handle that. I had to wait quite awhile for the DVD of "Gormenghast" to turn up, but that was complicated by BBC airing the show first on cable here and then selling it to public television.
