I've been babbling about my research project in almost every thread that I've either begun or contributed to, and this one will be no exception, I'm sorry to say. Hi, I'm Helen, and I'm becoming a bibliomaniac ...*grin*
This time I'm writing in to ask whether anyone knows of any really good authorities on the subject of the development of magic. I only recently stumbled across Lynn Thorndike's eight volume work on Magic and Experimental Science - well, _A_ volume of it, at any rate (and not to gripe, but at $134 bucks! Thieves! There are dealers who want over a thousand dollars for the set in it's entirety. I must have it ... but, arrrggghhhh! On a student budget, isn't that a little ... excessive? grumble, grumble, grumble ...). On the sites of out of print book dealers, it is frequently billed as "the definitive work in the field" - yet I'd never heard of it, simply because the last reprint was in the early 60's. Does anyone know of any other such great forgotten works that they might care to recomend? Or any reasonable booksellers?
