"The Dead Moon"
Hello, I am searching for a little known fairy-tale known as "The Dead Moon." I have never read it myself, but I recently ran across it as a reference in my reading. Has anyone ever hear of it? Does anyone know where I could find this story? Or even, what it is about? Thanx

The only "Dead moon" I know of is a punk band...have you tried using a tale/motif index? Stith Thompson and A. Arne put together two lists; 1) of tale types (one liners based on plots) and 2.) individual motifs (here maybe "death" and "moon") they found in folktale collections. It is possible to find a story (and its various versions from other countries) by knowing one or two images...it's a bit of a goose chase but it can be very rewarding. A good university library should have the A/T motif index. If you find it and have any trouble using it, check back here--there's a bunch of students on this board who could help you out.
otherwise, the story sounds really intriguing but I've no clue as to the origin. Where did you say you read about it?

I am familiar with "The Buried Moon," but not "The Dead Moon." Is there any chance it might be the same?
Where did you read about "The Dead Moon?" I may be able to locate it better with more context such as what you were reading about and why the tale was referenced.

"The Moon is Drowning While I Sleep"
I thought that the title sounded oddly familiar ...
Judging from the audio version, I think that Charles de Lint used this story as a basis for one of his (in my humble opinion, anyway) very best stories, in the _Dreams Underfoot_ collection. It's one of the one's detailing the life of Sophie, his half-fey character ... he turns the land of the fens into Sophie's dream world (literally), and makes Sophie into both the daughter of the moon, and her rescuer. The only story of his that I like better is the one in _The Ivory & the Horn_ where he describes a bookshop in another segment of Sophie's dream-world ... if only we could all be so lucky as to imagine new titles by our favorite authors, and to have them appear instantaneously ...

Thank you guys so much for your help! When i first read the Charles De Lint story, "The Moon is Drowning While I Sleep" all i wanted to do was to find the original, his version was so excellent! Thank you Peter for finding me that reference, it was incredibly helpful!
Heidi: do you know if the Buried Moon is the same tale? Iy could very well be, as I had not heard of the original until I read that story from one of my collections.
