ICFA 2002 and other conferences ...
Dear All:
I remember that there was a thread concerning conference proposals a few months ago (which, apparently, is not revivable) ... I just thought that I'd check back to see whether people's plans had finalized. ICFA, WisCon ... does anyone know for sure whether they'll be attending these or other conferences in the field yet?
Best, Helen

conferences
Helen,
I will definately be going to WisCon this coming year. I had to miss it due to some health issues, which no longer exist. I don't know about any others. Do you have any web addresses or dates you'd like to share?
When is the ICFA?

Re: conferences
Midori and I will be at Wiscon. Heinz Insu Fenkl usually comes too. Delia Sherman and EllenKushner have to miss it again this year, alas, because of scheduling conflicts. I don't know about ICFA yet. Probably not, but there's a small chance...

Re: ICFA 2002 and other conferences ...
I may be able to attend WisCon this year, too, barring job changes and such again. I don't think I will be able to attend ICFA although I will jump at the chance to attend anything related in the Los Angeles area if anyone knows of any such conferences.

I've got it penciled in...
Well I've got WisCon penciled in, at least mentally, because I don't have any actual calendars yet for next year. I attended two years ago and had a wonderful time. See you people there, I hope!

Schedule change ...
All of my favorite people are going to WisCon! I must attend! I'm going to be at the ICFA - I was accepted as a presenter (whee!). It runs from March 20th through the 24th, which is a perfect, as Wiscon starts on the 24th, and ends on the 27th, and Spring classes at Dartmouth resume on the 28th. Busy, busy, busy. By the way ... would anyone happen to know whether it's too late for me to send a proposal to someone at WisCon? Time has - aarrrggghh - gotten away from me, but if there's any chance , it would be so marvelous.
Best,
Helen

Re: Schedule change ...
Helen: No, it's not too late to send a proposal to Wiscon. You can use my name as a recommendation if you want to.
Heidi: I'd like to propose a Surlalune Fairy Tale panel discussion to the programming committee, with you as the moderator. Are you interested?
Charles: Glad to hear that you and Karen will be there!

Wishing....
Oh, I so wish I could go! I don't know where I'll be at that time, nor if I can afford anypart of getting there. Could I convince any of you into doing something up here in Boston? Jane, will you be attending/presenting at any of the New England conferences next year? With wedding plans, self-publishing out of my pocket, printing and cutting (and maybe binding) *Indelible* (which I'll need all contributors' mailing addresses for soon), I'm starting to understand what my writing professor in college truly meant when he answered "Yes," when I asked him, "Will I starve?" Yikes!
Ok, I'm rambling, but I truly wish I could attend, even as an assistant or something. I forget, do they have "scholarships" or assistance? (I'm sure I've asked this every time this topic has been posted.)

Re: Thank you ...
Yes, Terri, I would be honored to moderate a panel at Wiscon. The plans are coming together for me to attend so far. Fortunately, it is before summer reading begins, too. What kind of panel discussion did you have in mind?
Helen, good luck with the paper submissions! I haven't done one in years, but I always enjoy presenting.

Re: Thank you ...
Heidi, Midori and I came up with a good topic last year...and now I just have to remember what it was. (Midori, help! It was something about outlaws and subversives in fairy tales and fairy tale literature.) Also, I believe Midori wants to do a sequel to last year's Arabian fairy tales panel. (Greg, will you be at WisCon this year? If so, we need you on that one.)

What is ICFA?
What is ICFA? I tried plugging it into Google and got the International Cemetary and Funeral Association -- pretty sure that *that's* not it . . .

ICFA
*laughing*
The full (and mellifluous) title of this event in the International
Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts. The 23rd Annual international
Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts, no less. Try saying *that*
five times fast.

To all,
I am a serious lurker here, have been for some time, but I will be attending Wiscon now that I know it exists and I look forward to meeting some of you there.

ICFA et al
Ack!! So glad to see the reminder. Between the GRE, sinking into the Hell of Endless Graduate Applications, and trying to finish my thesis plus coursework, I've been negligent around here. I've been accepted to ICFA as well, and to NEMLA in Toronto in April. WisCon is on my "hopeful" list, if I can scrape together some institutional support. Car repairs and application fees have me all tapped out!

Re: Wiscon
Terri,
Yes, I'm currently planning to attend Wiscon this year. ICFA is penciled in, but until I get confirmation of a reading slot from them, that one isn't on the radar. If there's anything I should be doing to let the Wiscon people know I'm attending, please let me know. It's too bad Ellen and Delia won't be there. Their company will be sorely missed.
Elise, the ICFA is the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts, held annually in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It's been going on for over two decades, mostly in FLA. It's not a typical sf convention, which is one reason a lot of folks don't know of it. Rather, it's an academic conference, sort of Modern Language Association meets the Fantastic. Lots of papers delivered on topics across the fantasy universe, numerous readings by attending authors, and, well, a lot of drinking.

Re: New England conferences
Jane- Oh deary dear! That's quite a packed schedule! I look forward to your workshop at UMass. Do you think you'll be at NESCBWI again?
I think I'm going to have to start a gift registry for conferences
instead of housewares- I think it would be more exciting and I have
all I need here anyway. What do people think? Has it been done before?

Re: New England conferences
Dear Laura:
I'd like to talk to you about the ICFA a bit, but I'm afraid that I've misplaced your e-mail. Could you contact me at Helen.Pilinovsky@dartmouth.edu?
Best,
