Brainstorming
I was intrigued to find the following auction on Ebay:

it’s over now, but it was for a couple of romance novels that started me thinking. I’ve never read these much, but the one by Farraday that’s based on selkie legends makes me wonder: does anyone know of any work that’s been done with folklore themes in women’s romance fiction? I bet there’s plenty of source material! For that matter, have any of you read some of these types of books? I’m planning to order the Farraday and the “Sleeping Beau” one in the new year.

I don't read romance novels either, and I have been reluctant to list the titles on my site since I know I cannot be comprehensive and I don't think they fit the tone of the books I do list. However, I can attest there are plenty. I just processed quite a few at the library which use fairy tale allusions on the jacket and spins on familiar fairy tale motifs for titles. My favorite I saw yesterday as I walked by the display: "Someone's Been Sleeping In My Bed." I was in the library, but I had to run into the back to laugh at the cleverness of using that particular line for a romance title. The cover actually has a man lounging on silken sheets--and no, he is not a Goldilocks!
The women check these books out in stacks and I always get the sense that they are wanting to read many, many fairy tales about finding their prince but feel they have outgrown the fairy tale section.

There's _Utterly Charming,_ by Kristine Grayson, published by Zebra Contemporary Romance, 2000. The author quite specifically refers to it as a fractured fairy tale. It's based in the Sleeping Beauty story.
