More on swans
First of all let me rave about how happy I am to find this place! I'm thrilled to see so many of my favorite writers and artists in one place! I love fairytales and myths and find them weaving themselves into my own writing whether I plan it that way or not.
Which brings me to my question. I'm writing a story that uses a legend that I read as a child as it's root. The legend is Scottish, I'd swear. It's about two swans that reside on a loch near a castle, and are supposed to somehow guard it against invasion and other misfortune. One day a young laird shoots one of the swans and the other flies away. Every now and then the two swans are seen as ghosts swimming on the loch, one with a red spot on its breast where the brat shot her. They say that whenever they are seen it warns of some misfortune that is about to befall the castle and/or its occupants.
I've searched all over the internet all night tonight and half of
yesterday, and I can't seem to find it. Can anyone elaborate on
the legend, or tell me where I might find it? Or am I halucinating
it? I've considered that as a possibility.
