Donkeyskin
Helen: In the "adult fairy tales" thread below, you mentioned that you've written a paper on Donkeyskin. We're always looking for good nonfiction on fairy tales for the Endicott web site. Is this something you'd be willing to make public?

Need you even ask?
Dear Terri:
I am incredibly flattered that you would consider my work - the caliber of the writing to be found on the website is something that I aspire to every time that I sit down before a keyboard. I would be thrilled to contribute that piece, or any of the others that I have on fantastic or mythic topics. I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to respond - this semester will be my final one before graduate school, and I'm finding that there are a lot of loose ends to be tied before I can move on.
Respectfully,
Helen

Helen, if you write to me about your essays c/o Mardelle Kunz at the Endicott Studio web site address (endicottstudio@earthlink.net), I'll send you my e-mail address.

We-ell ...
Dear Terri:
I've just sent an e-mail to Ms. Kunz - and thank you for giving me this opportunity. As a long time admirer of your work, an undergraduate, and an unpublished writer (unless you count college publications, which, unfortunately, many do not ...) this means the world to me.
Dear Cory-Ellen:
Dartmouth! I'm really excited about it. The program is terrific, the professors are great, and the campus looks unbelievably peaceful after the daily crush of the New York commute. I'm going to be living with another woman whose research interests include literary fairy tales (though she leans more towards German Romantacism, I believe). After the stress of the application process, it is *such* a relief to finally know where I'll be for the next year ... and just think, I only have to do it all over again in six months to go to a Ph.D. program.
How about you? Have you reached a decision yet?

Re: We-ell ...
Helen,

I'll let you know what's doing with me in approximately [checking watch] three hours. That's when I'm calling Sarah Lawrence to find out if I got in off the waitlist. I could call earlier, but I have my pride and dignity to think of. Not that I have much of either, at this point. If Sarah Lawrence says yes, I'm moving on up to Westchester, hanging out with Hillary Clinton, and keeping my job. If the answer is no, I'm packing the Saturn and road tripping out to Tucson via New Orleans. And mailing my cat, which prospect makes me unspeakably anxious. Of course, we can tell I'm already unspeakably anxious, since I'm writing this post at 8 am and I've already been up for more than two hours. After going to sleep around 2:30am. Whee!

Sparing y'all the rest of my incoherent anxiety,
Cory-Ellen

Nuh?
Dear Cory Ellen:
So ... do we Nor'Easterners get to continue enjoying the pleasure of your company, or do we lose you to Terri and co.? All facetiousness aside, either option sounds wonderful. Congratulations!
Helen
P.S. - might I mention that I almost went into withdrawal while the board was down? The new offerings on the Endicott site and the unexplored riches of the Surlalune site where the only things to keep me going.

Yeah, um, wish I knew. Long saga. Hopefully I'll hear today. *fingers & toes crossed. A lot.*

eek
So Sarah Lawrence it is! The weird thing is, I'm almost vaguely disappointed, because I had my whole road trip plotted out and was looking for housing in Tucson and everything . . .

But now I get to write for two years. And you just can't beat that.

Dazed,
Cory-Ellen

CONGRATULATIONS! Getting into your first choice program is *wonderful*. Any plans for celebrating?

Re: Wheeee!
CoryEllen,

Congratulations! I remember that you and I were applying for programs at about the same time, and it's wonderful that you got your first choice! You go, girl! Joseph Campbell's old stomping grounds...

BTW, for those who care, I will be attending the University of Florida for my PhD work, this fall. Minnesota did not have enough funding to take me, so I miss out on Jack Zipes *sniff* (in other words, REJECTED!), and Alison Lurie is retiring, so no Cornell. But that's okay, because Florida seduced me with good money, and one of the top children's lit programs, plus folklore. I'm happy. Plus, it's FLORIDA. Hmmm. Gainesville in January vs. Minneapolis in January. That's really tough. Is anyone else in that area?

Well, Joe Haldeman--the sf writer--lives in Gainsville during the winters. If oyu meet him, say hi from me.
