anyone know of russian bear's wife folk tale? I remember reading a folk tale sometime ago, Russian in origin I believe, about a woman married to a Bear, beauty and the beast type story, but was hoping for finding it again... feel free to email me with any help. thanks!

Do you mean East of the Sun, West
of the Moon? The version I know best is Scandinavian, but there
are Russian (and other) versions. Try this link to the East of the

Re: anyone know of russian bear's wife folk tale? yes that's it!!! thanks so much! it was driving e crazy and I looked in all of my russian fairy tale books and could not find it. now I know to look in the scandinavian fairy tale books that I have. Thank you ever so much!

Hmm... I don't quite remember what the exact tale was, but Orson Scott Card did work it into his Sleeping Beauty retelling, "Enchantment," which I read a few months ago. In that story, Baba Yaga was married to a bear, but I'm not sure if it's the same story.
In any case, the book was wonderful.
