Transformations (the opera)
Does anyone have any idea whether a video of the operatic adaptation of Anne Sexton's TRANSFORMATIONS is available, and how I might get a copy? I can't seem to find out at all. Even Facets in Chicago doesn't have it listed, as far as I can tell.

Re: Transformations (the opera)
Hmmm, I've only found mention of the opera with Conrad Susa briefly.

A few other sites have mention, too.

I actually saw the book of her poems being offered at my company this season- I can ask if anyone in the Trade division knows about it. Sorry I can't help more right now.

Re: Transformations (the opera)
I didn't know there was an opera based on Sexton's Transformations. I would love, love, love to see this.

Opera?
Like Terri, I was completely unaware of this. I'm assuming that, like the Philip K. Dick opera, it's not something many people are ever likely to see?

another site
Terri,
Here is another site address that gives a nice description of the Opera and Sexton's poetry.

www.jhu.edu/~gazette/1999...exton.html

(gee, I know there's a way to make it light up like a link--sorry I must have done something awkward in transferring the address). I'll check at the grad. library today--maybe it's something they have. Susa did stuff for PBS so I'll see what I can find.

Opera
It's supposed to be a great opera, actually (though I know little about opera--most of what I know is from Kathryn Davis's excellent novel, Girl Who Trod on a Loaf). I am having a terrible time tracking a video of it down; maybe one doesn't exist. I can't find a recording of it either.

It made sense to adapt this book to opera--Sexton was very interested in music's connection to her poetry and toured the country in about 1971 or so (?) with a band called 'Her Kind' (one of her poem titles, a definitive poem). She didn't sing, but recited poetry while they played.

If anyone finds anything out about where to view this opera I would love to know, still. Maybe The Screening Room in New York (but you have to be there to use it)?

libretto
Still no luck on a video--but I did manage to find a copy of Susa's libretto through interlibrary loan. I should be getting it in a week. I am totally curious about it too! (and hey, I noticed my link *did* light up in that last post....very cool.)

Susa
Midori,

Did you get a chance to listen to the operatic "Transformations"? Just curious. I'm thinking of ordering a copy for myself and for teaching, but wanted to hear your thoughts first.
