The Wild Swans
[mail]faith50 at verizon.net[/mail]

Hi,
I'm wondering if the person who posted in Jan. '06 ever located the video of The Wild Swans (or whatever it might be called) about Elise and her brothers who were turned into swans (or ravens). My daughter loved this video, and I would love to find it for her. Thanks!

Re: The Wild Swans
I don't know of any video... but there is an AMAZING book with about the same plot line called Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Have you heard of it?

Re: The Wild Swans
Hey there,
No, I haven't read it - Is this a new book? For what ages? Maybe it's a longer version of the fairy tale. I should take a look at it - I love the story. (The video I'm trying to find is of a fairy tale that has been retold many times.) Thanks for your reply.

Re: The Wild Swans
It's not terribly new. It's best for ages 12 and 13 up, since there is some 'scary' elements and the main girl does get raped... It is a beautifully written work of art.

Videos are so hard to find, especially older ones. do you know when this movie was made? or if it was live-action or animated?

Re: The Wild Swans
Hey there,
The video would be at least from 1985, since my daughter was little then. She would have been watching sometime between '85 and '92, but the video could be older. It was animated.

The Wild Swans
There's also a lovely novel by Peg Kerr based on this fairy tale, called The Wild Swans.

Re: The Wild Swans
I remember seeing an animated movie like this a long time ago, so I got curious and looked around a little...

I found a Russian movie from 1962 movie on Wikipedia and a Japanese from 1977 on imbd, both called The Wild Swan - the Russian credits the HC Andersen version, while the Japanese credits the Brothers Grimm.
(Both animated.)

I believe I've seen another Japanese animated movie on the same theme but with cranes as well.

In either case, it's a beautiful story :)
