Fairy Tales used in advertising
Hi Everyone,

I am currently writing my final year dissertation on the topic of fairy tales in advertising. I have read your previous posts that relate to this topic which have already been a great help! The texts that seems to be cropping up are by Jack Zipes, which is where I aim to start my research. Does anyone have any other suggestions of texts or webpages that may be of use?

I am also trying to locate some recent examples of fairy tales used in advertising, which is proving to be quite difficult! Can anyone think of any?

Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

Re: Fairy Tales used in advertising
There's something in the Oxford Companion to Fairy Tales (either under Fairy Tales and Advertising or Fairy Tales and Television) that could possibly be a good starting point.

I can't think of any of the top of my head, but here's a few fairy-tale/fairy-tale fantasy adverts of some interest:

A Coach for Cinderella/A Ride for Cinderella:
1930s promo films for General Motors centred around the Cinderella story, directed by Max Fleischer (Betty Boop, Popeye etc).

Magic Happens:
Advertisement for Disney that won a Silver Lion at Cannes in 2002, which utilises aspects of "Cinderella".

Disney Advertising in the 50s:
In the 1950s, the Disney studio made stylised commercials, many of which revolved around storybook characters from "Alice in Wonderland", "Peter Pan", "Pinocchio", "Alice in Wonderland" and "Song of the South".

Walt Disney World ads 2007:
Sorry that all the advertising things that I have are Disney related, but these shots from Annie Leibovitz advertising Disney World have celebrities re-enacting scenes from "Alice in Wonderland", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella".

advertising in fairy tales
There is a series going on now "The what's in your wallet" credit card that starts with a girl trying to kiss a frog and ending up with a variety of animals. That series also includes a knight saving the kingdom and getting a small reward because of the fine print.

Re: advertising in fairy tales
Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked has a chapter about the use of LRRH in advertising/tv that may be worth your time.

Re: advertising in fairy tales
If you can look through the archived posts from the last few years, there has been discussion on this topic in the past. Specifically, I remember posts about the Thermasilk ad campaign (one featured a woman and a dragon).

Re: advertising in fairy tales
Hi,

You can look at Lolita Lempicka fragrances, I did a semiotic analysis on her campaign, I compared it to Snow White.
You can go to her website www.lolitalempicka.com
Her new fragrance has a sea-theme and the model reminds me of The Little Mermaid.

I hope this helps!
Good luck,
Danni

searching ideas for billboard
good day,

writing with a hope to get some advices from experts :b
Working with one real estate agency who are willing to have billboards of one developement. The idea is to have zigzag of billboards...and I got an idea to connect the story through the fairy tales. It is possible to be characters, or even the shorts phrases from stories for kids. I believe this would make sense to improve the imagination.
Would like to ask those who read not long time ago some fairy tale and could connect with 'family nest' I believe in this case even Merry Popins would be an option.

Thank you
