Re: The representation of women in fairytales
When I read your post, my first thought was to ask you how you think women appear in ordinary life. Are they active or passive, or is there a cross over?

I don't see that division as very helpful... the behavior of women and girls in fairy tales is pretty diverse. A lot of the time it is about how they respond to aversity.

Some are crafty, some are courageous, some simply endure.

In the stories you mention, there are many different kinds of women: in Cinderella for instance, there is Cinderella, the wicked stepmother and her daughters, and the fairy godmother. You could say that what the story is about is how the women relate to each other.

Re: The representation of women in fairytales
Hi, and welcome to the boards.

First, try clicking the link at the top of the forum's main page that says "Women and Fairy Tales." You might find a lot of information you're looking for there.

Second, you might have greater luck on this forum if you type in complete sentences; we don't tend to use much text-message/IM shorthand here (and some of us are old :lol ).

Good luck!
