Looking for a fairy tale
I am looking for the title and a book/website where this fairy tale can be found. The story is about a woman who in her teenage years goes to live with her godmother in a castle where she is allowed to do anything but go in a certain room. One time that her godmother is away, the girl goes into the forbidden room and sees a casket with a skeleton rising from it, mumbling something. She shuts the door and runs away, denying that she's been there when her godmother returns.
Knowing that she is lying, her godmother turns her mute and puts her in a forest where she meets a hunting party led by a prince. He falls in love with her and marries her, and they have a child. However, he is forced to go to war, and while alone in her room, the girl is visited by her godmother who asks her whether she entered the forbidden room. The girl denies this and has her newborn ripped in two. This repeats twice with her subsequent children, and she is accused of being a witch. Just when she is about to be publicly executed for her witchery, her godmother appears again. She asks the girl whether she's entered the forbidden room, the girl denies it again, and the procession continues until she is actually at the stake. Then a chariot appears with a queen and three children, the queen being the previously bewitched old godmother whose curse has been broken by the girl's stubborn denial. The girl is set free and reunited with her husband and children, who are evidently alive.

I know it sounds kind of ridiculous to ask for anything when I practically know every detail of the story, but please indulge me. It will be a great help. Thank you.

Oh, and if anyone knows the girl's name, that would also be great.

Re: Looking for a fairy tale
I haven't heard that particular version of the tale, but it's a tale that appears in a great many variations. One well-known version is "Our Lady's Child" in Grimms. The storyline is virtually identical, with a few key differences...the godmother is the Virgin Mary, the girl is taken to heaven, the forbidden room contains the Trinity, and at the very end of the story she is redeemed by telling the truth, rather than persisting in her story.

The biggest differences in the variations on this story have to do with what is the forbidden room (in other versions she sees a skeleton in a rocking chair, or the old woman herself, whose skin is seen to be half white and half black in a process of transformation which the girl disrupts by looking at her) and with what ultimately redeems the girl (telling the truth or sticking to her lie.) That particular detail is vital, and the Grimm version obviously takes a different approach to it, but if you're just looking for a text of that tale-type, it's pretty easy to find.

Re: Looking for a fairy tale
Thank you, J and Heidi.

In the version I know, the godmother is the skeleton, and she otherwise appears old because a wizard who she had rejected had bewitched her out of spite.
