Any NaNoWriMos amongst us?
Just wondering if there are any others crazy enough to be doing NaNoWriMo this year. If so I'd love to be a cheer-you-along writing buddy. I haven't found any other fairy tale enthusiasts on the forums yet (not that I have time to do much searching!) so let me know if you're busy lurking or lost in a typing frenzy and would like some moral support. I'm under InkGypsy there as well and you can have a glance at my profile and read an excerpt of my story-in-progress if you're interested.

Write on!

*cheers*

Not this year, but I've done it twice before.

Re: any NaNoWriMo writers
I tried it one year but I'm already reworking something and wanted to stay at it. I found it better to just keep with what I'm working on rather than drop everything for the month. And the year I tried it I fizzled out around 10k.

I also find I'm more productive after the new year. My energy tends to drain towards December.

Re: any NaNoWriMo writers
For me, November is one of the worst months for NaNoWriMo. I always wish it was in March or some other month when the holidays aren't demanding, spring is in the air and inspiring me, and the new year's resolutions have died their slow death.

Not that I've set resolutions in years--not having any counts as a resolution though--but I'm a regular goal-setter.

So good luck and may the muse and stamina be with you!

I thought I would try it because I'm foolhardy. I'm a teacher so this is a bad time for me as well....and to boot a first year teacher. But I have somehow managed almost 1K. It is to laugh.

This has lead some friends of mine to wonder if there should be a new Nanowrimo for people involved in retail, teachers, busy family lives in a month when there is just more time to be had on hand.

I made it!
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all - it just keeps getting busier...

I made it! Yay! Crazy as it was.. didn't get to the end of the story though so I'm still writing daily, but more slowly.

I set out to rewrite a fairytale but when November 1st rolled around a completely different image came to mind and I ran with it. I'm still finding echoes, albeit faint ones, appearing in my story. With my strange opening image of a murdered girl mysteriously brought back to life in the middle of a wood I wouldn't have been surprised to see Sleeping Beauty motifs but now that I'm trying to pull it into a cohesive whole I'm seeing bits of Red Riding Hood, Snow White and The Wild Swans! It then occurred to me it might be a good way to roadmap my story to see what I might be missing or perhaps twist things unexpectedly where I feel it gets a little pedestrian. What do you think? (Note: I don't think anyone not familiar with the literary tales would pick this up by the way - it's set in today's world and doesn't have the obvious traditional elements)

My own writing often uses fairytales for inspiration or if not specifically, I find the various motifs appearing throughout. It's only now, looking over my NaNo novel which is part suspense part lit. fic and part fantasy that I realized maybe I can use this as a tool in the REVISING stage too. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this idea! Has anyone else used this or thinks it might be useful?
