400 original Pre WWII Illustrations/drawings on slides
Hi Folks,

Im new here and never dreamed that I would be posting on this forum but I like it here and maybe, with a bit of luck, will stumble across someone with interest and know how.

A Polish friend asked me to publish about 400 to 500 slides of fairy tales and childrens tales. The catch is that these are ALL original drawings and paintings made during and shortly after WWII. All of the art work was done by refugees, many of them injured in the war. Many are in black and white but the most are in color. They were intended to be used as slide show stories for children after the war. Many of them are really quite good and like I said, the originals.
Now, how do I go about finding the right publisher?
I would greatly appreciate any idea that would help me in getting this fine artwork published!

Ciao

You could have a problem with rights. It will be nearly impossible to get a publisher unless you can clearly indicate that you have the rights to use the illustrations.

Hi Writerpatrick,

Your reservations arent unfounded and very logical, of course. The catch is though, that my friends family got a hold of these illustrations - the originals and only copies. They were actually public property with no rights or restrictions.
Now Im looking for a publisher, author or even some sort of historical society that may be interested in this unique material.

Re: 400 original Pre WWII Illustrations/drawings on slides
If you have the rights, then it seems you would want an writer to work with to help you put it into a manuscript unless you're willing to do the work yourself. Then the manuscript could be submitted to publishers and agents in an attempt to find one willing to publish. It does sound interesting, but don't expect to be able to sell them to a writer (they never have any money anyways). What you would expect is to be able to get a portion of the proceeds of the published book, and that would likely be worked out with an agent before publication. If you are interested in going this route I could help. It's not exactly the type of work I've been doing lately but I understand enough of the business to know how to sell it as a book. You can e-mail me at writerpatrick@yahoo.com if you're interested.
